Nylon vs. polyester: what's the difference?

At Decorator’s Den, we get this question a lot. It’s a common question homeowners have when buying new carpets for their homes. Nylon is the most popular carpet on the market, while polyester is another high-quality fiber. Both of them are excellent choices for your home. Let’s discuss how.

Nylon

Nylon receives a stain-resistant treatment while being created with a strong and durable fiber. It retains its original look years after being installed because it is so resilient. It handles heavy furniture well because it springs back into shape after removing the furniture. Nylon can be used throughout the home, hallways, dining rooms, and family rooms. It is also suitable for sunlit rooms because it can resist fading. It is ideal for heavy traffic rooms in active households.

Polyester

Polyester is a carpet that comes in bright, vibrant, and beautiful colors, unlike nylon, which has dull matte colors. Polyester is inherently stain-resistant as it is a hydrophobic material. However, it isn't as durable as nylon. Therefore, it is better suited for low-traffic areas in the home, like bedrooms. Its attractive colors make it an excellent choice for a child’s bedroom or teen’s room that wants to personalize their space. Lively carpet color can also spruce up a master bedroom and add sophistication to it. Polyester is made from recycled plastic bottles, so it has a low production value and is considered a green eco-carpet. This makes it have a lower price point than nylon.
